An inspired vision
The vision for Cherish Maternity Home was born in a moment of divine inspiration. As Crystal Baddorf passed a condemned building on her daily commute, she felt a whisper from the Lord: This would be a great home for women. For weeks, she imagined the possibilities—what if this forgotten space could become a refuge for women facing unplanned pregnancies?
On April 4, 2024, that dream took a bold step forward. At a women’s networking event, Crystal learned that the cost of living for a single individual in her town was $21 per hour—an impossible hurdle for many expectant mothers struggling to secure stable housing. That realization propelled her into action. She pulled into the parking lot of the condemned building and made a call that would change everything.
“I’m Crystal Baddorf. I have $0 for an offer, and I don’t have a nonprofit organization yet, but I have a vision. If it’s not a waste of your time, I’d like to share it with you.”
The broker listened. That conversation marked the beginning of a journey of faith, perseverance, and community support. Crystal began reaching out to friends she knew would believe in her vision. As a team, they set out to make Cherish Home for Expectant Mothers a reality. By April 19, 2024, just two weeks later, Cherish was officially registered as a nonprofit in South Carolina. On August 29, 2024, the IRS granted tax-exempt status, solidifying the foundation for the work ahead.
Tomorrow's future
What began as a whispered calling from the Lord has grown into a movement of hope, compassion, and unwavering faith. Crystal, the board, and a dedicated team of supporters are working tirelessly to bring Cherish to life. Through prayer, community outreach, and the generosity of those who believe in our mission, we will create a place where women can find the support, resources, and love they need to navigate pregnancy and beyond.
Cherish will be more than a shelter—it will be a home. It will be a space where women are embraced with Christ’s love, equipped with the tools to build a stable future, and empowered to walk confidently into motherhood. Every day, our vision becomes more of a reality, and we believe that every woman who will walk through our doors is a testament to God’s faithfulness.
